Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) is used to extend the shelf life of food by removing the air from the product package and replacing it with a gas, or a gas mixture. The residual oxygen content is typically below 2%.

Smithers is able to determine the residual oxygen level in packs down to 0.01% (100ppm) using a calibrated PBI Dansensor Checkmate 9900 oxygen headspace analyser. The apparatus uses a highly stable zirconia sensor and requires less than a 2ml sample volume.

We can also test the oxygen and water vapor permeability of packaging.
