Smithers Promotes Medical Device Testing Expert Michael Kelly to Laboratory Manager

(Akron, OH) –April 25, 2022 - Smithers, a leading provider of testing, consulting, information, and compliance services announces the promotion of Michael Kelly to the Laboratory Manager for its physical and functional medical device testing laboratory in Akron, Ohio.
 
As the Laboratory Manager, Michael will develop testing protocols, ensure regulatory compliance, manage laboratory technicians, and work directly with clients to understand their goals and to ensure that client projects are on time. In his new role, Michael will also continue to support the ongoing growth of Smithers North America-based physical and functional analysis laboratory.
 
Michael Kelly joined Smithers in 2015 as a Project Engineer with the product testing team. Michael transitioned to the Medical Device Testing Division in 2020 where he played a significant role in establishing the North American laboratory as an expansion of Smithers’ existing medical device testing capabilities in the United Kingdom.
 
“Michael’s technical knowledge and industry expertise has been key in the development of our Akron-based physical and functional testing laboratory,” said Gael Peron, Vice President, Smithers Medical Device Testing Division. Michael Kelly holds a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Akron. He was a podium presenter at the Midwest American Society of Biomedical Engineers Regional Conference in 2015, and his work has been published in the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine. Before joining Smithers, Michael was a research assistant at Akron General Medical Center, focusing on mechanical testing in the biomedical field. Michael is a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society.
