Like all agricultural products, cannabis is susceptible to infection and contamination by microbes. Click here to learn more about our microbiological impurities testing. In IL, the amounts of aerobic bacteria, bile-tolerant gram-negative bacteria, coliforms, yeasts and molds, Shiga-toxin producing E. coli, and Salmonella are regulated with quantitative limits set by the Department of Agriculture. At Smithers, we use a combination of traditional methods used in the Food and Agriculture industries such as agar specific plating and more modern approaches such as cannabis-specific quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) assays to determine whether a sample of cannabis falls within IL action limits. This allows for Smithers’ scientists to achieve highly confident results with turnaround times as fast as a few hours.

Required Sample Amount: 2-3g
